Importance of Computer Processor

DEFINITION

A processor is a small chip in computers and other electronic equipment. Its fundamental task is to receive input and provide the appropriate output. While this may seem a simple task, modern processors are able to handle trillions of calculations per second.

A computer processor is also known as the CPU, or “central processing unit,” which handles all basic system instructions, such as mouse processing, keyboard input and running applications.

Importance of Processors

The Four Primary Functions of the CPU

  1. Fetch:Each instruction has its own address and is stored in memory. This address number is taken from the program counter by the processor, which is responsible for tracking which instructions the CPU should follow.
  2. Decode: All programs to be implemented will be translated into instructions for the Assembly. Assembly code has to be decoded into binary instructions that your CPU can understand. This step is called the decoding process.
  3. Execute: The CPU can do one of three things while executing instructions: do calculations with its ALU, move data from one location of memory to another, or jump to another location.
  4. Store: After executing an instruction, the CPU must provide feedback and the output data is written to the memory.

Computer Processor Type

AMD Processors Manufacture

Those two processors type are computer processors manufacture that produce many different type of processors. Intel processors from Intel Corporation and AMD Processors from Advanced Micro Devices Incorporation.
